Tension escalated outside Baksa District Jail in Assam on Wednesday after the key accused in singer Zubeen Garg’s death case — programme organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Sidharth Sharma, and three others — were transferred to the newly constructed jail for judicial custody. Hundreds of protesters, mainly Zubeen Garg’s fans, gathered demanding justice, leading to clashes with police. Baton charges were used to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to journalists, police personnel, and fans. Two individuals with bullet injuries were shifted to Guwahati for treatment. Authorities imposed prohibitory orders and a complete internet shutdown in Baksa district. Massive security deployment helped control the situation, though tension remains high.
