Singer Zubeen Garg was cremated with full state honours and a 21-gun salute on the outskirts of Guwahati. A massive gathering of fans and dignitaries, including Assam’s Chief Minister and Union Minister Kiran Rijiju, attended the last rites. The 52-year-old artist died on September 19 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. His passing prompted the state to declare a three-day mourning period. The government also allocated 10 bighas of land for a memorial at the funeral site and will establish a film institute in his honour. As a collective tribute, lakhs of emotional fans sang Garg’s song, ‘Mayabini Ratir Bukut,’ turning it into an anthem of grief.
