In connection with the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg, his manager Siddharth Sharma and event organiser Shamakanu Mahanta have been arrested. They have been remanded to 14 days in police custody and taken to Guwahati for interrogation by the CID. Garg died on September 19 in Singapore during a private yacht party. While the death certificate from Singapore mentions drowning as the cause, there are widespread demands for justice in Assam amid public speculation of foul play. A key point of contention is that, according to reports, "people here in the state of Assam have been demanding justice for…as they were speculating that he cannot die just because of drowning." The investigation is now exploring charges of negligence and murder against the two accused, who were in Singapore at the time of the singer’s death and were arrested at the airport upon their return.
