The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating an illegal betting app case, summoning former cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actor Anveshi Jain for questioning. The probe centres on celebrity endorsements, money laundering, and tax evasion linked to the promotion of these apps, which were often misleadingly portrayed as games of skill. Other high-profile names, including cricketers Robin Uthappa, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina, have also been questioned. Actor Sonu Sood is scheduled to be questioned on September 24. A key focus of the investigation is to determine if the celebrities who promoted the app are beneficiaries of the proceeds of crime. The central question is, according to an ED source, "any person who has received the ill-gotten money, he becomes beneficiary of proceeds of crime." The ED will decide whether to treat them as accused or witnesses in the case.
