Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing counterattack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter criticised the Congress party’s shirtless protest at the AI summit. In a strongly-worded message on social media platform X, Gandhi said, ‘Modiji, do you talk about shame? Let me tell you what shame is.’ He accused the Prime Minister of having his name appear in the Epstein files alongside ministers and friends, calling it ‘shameful’ to be linked to ‘such a wild criminal’. Gandhi also targeted the Indo-US trade deal, alleging Modi ‘sold out the country’ by handing over data, harming farmers and destroying the textile industry. He claimed the Adani case in America ‘has kept you up at night because it’s the case against the BJP and your financial architecture’, stating no action has been taken for 14 months. Gandhi declared Congress will ‘continue to defend the country’ and ‘won’t retreat even an inch’. Prime Minister Modi had earlier condemned the Congress protest at the AI summit as ‘shameful’, saying the party was ready to ‘defame its own country’. Despite criticism from alliance partners including Samajwadi Party, RJD, Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena, the Congress leadership has backed its youth wing’s protest.
