The flooding highlights ongoing issues of encroachment on the Yamuna’s floodplains, identified as Zone O, with experts also pointing to the impact of climate change and extreme rainfall events. The government’s response includes opening barrage gates to manage the water flow, but challenges in providing sufficient aid to all affected people remain.
