A political storm is brewing in Delhi over the clean-up of the Yamuna river ahead of Chhath Puja, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, at odds. The AAP accuses the BJP of hypocrisy, stating, ‘Wohi chemical jo Delhi sarkar Arvind Kejriwal ji ke samay mein hum log spray karte…Usko Pravesh Verma kahate the ki ye nadi mein zeher mila rahe hain. Wohi bilkul wohi chemical Aap spray kar rahe hain.’ This charge comes as the BJP showcases a visually cleaner Yamuna, attributing it to the use of eco-friendly, lab-tested defoamers. In a direct challenge, AAP has dared CM Gupta to drink the river water to prove its purity. The controversy revives a long-standing political battle, with the AAP circulating past videos of BJP leaders, including now-Water Minister Parvesh Verma, calling the same chemicals ‘poison’ when the Kejriwal government used them.
