The Yamuna river’s water level in Delhi has crossed the 206-meter mark, prompting a flood alert in the national capital. Over 3 lakh cusecs of water were released from the Hathnikund barrage, causing the river to swell and bringing back memories of the July 2023 floods when the level reached a high of 208.66 meters. Authorities state the current situation may not be as dire as in 2023, as crucial barrage gates have been opened to allow water to flow through. However, with predictions of heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana, the situation remains fluid. Displaced residents report losing their belongings and facing health risks like dengue and malaria with inadequate government support. Despite the danger, some devotees remain undeterred. One said, "If the mother goddess gives us mud, we will stay in the mud, if she gives water, we will stay in water… we have to see her."
