A POCSO case has been filed against a self-styled godman from Yadgir after a viral video showed him allegedly engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a seven-year-old child. The video, recorded inside the Yadgir monastery, showed the child sitting on the godman’s lap and appearing visibly distraught. The Child Welfare Committee took suo motu cognisance of the incident and recommended filing an FIR. Despite the committee’s findings that the child was uncomfortable, the parents defended the godman, claiming they recorded and uploaded the video themselves and that no wrong was done. The Yadgir police have issued a notice to the godman to appear for questioning. If he does not cooperate with the investigation, authorities indicate he is likely to be arrested. The Child Welfare Committee counselled both the parents and the child following the incident.
