As the Winter Session of Parliament commences, the Opposition is set to corner the government on the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and national security. Congress MP Jebi Mather, representing Kerala, highlighted the distress among Booth Level Officers (BLOs), stating, ‘SIR is a big issue. On ground, reality is BLOs are even committing suicide.’ She also raised concerns about the recent Delhi blast, asserting that ‘national security itself is at stake.’ In response, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi defended the government’s schedule, noting the session includes ’15 sittings spread over 19 days’ with a focus on ’14 legislative and financial items.’ Sarangi dismissed the Opposition’s claims as ‘diversionary tactics’ and emphasized the government’s development agenda. The session is expected to be ‘frosty’ as the Opposition demands discussions on electoral integrity while the government pushes for bill passage.
