The Tejas Mk1 currently uses the GE F404, delivering 85 kN of thrust, but the Pratt & Whitney F135 produces an enormous 191 kN. On paper, this could push Tejas into the heavyweight class with more speed, range, and payload capacity. But in reality, the mismatch in size, heat, and weight would overwhelm Tejas’s airframe and systems. Installing such an engine would demand a complete redesign of the jet.
