West Bengal SIR Row: Mamata Banerjee To Meet CEC Gyanesh Kumar Over 'Arbitrary' Voter List Revision

On this Special Report, the focus is on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Delhi to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Chief Minister, accompanied by Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, is set to formally record her objections against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Banerjee has described the SIR exercise as an ‘arbitrary, politically motivated exercise’ and has alleged significant irregularities in the process. Visuals show the leaders dressed in black as a mark of protest during their visit to the Election Commission. Furthermore, the Bengal Chief Minister has filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commissioner’s actions regarding this matter. The meeting, scheduled for four in the evening, aims to officially document the state government’s grievances concerning the voter list revision process, which the Chief Minister claims is biased. This programme explores the escalating tension between the West Bengal government and the poll body.
