West Bengal SIR 2025: 58 Lakh Names Deleted, Faultless Electoral Roll Ahead of 2026 Polls

In an exclusive interview with India Today’s Tapas Sengupta, Special Roll Observer for West Bengal, Subrata Gupta, discusses the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls. Gupta addresses the deletion of 58 lakh names identified as absentee, shifted, dead, or duplicate (ASDD), stating the list has been shared with political parties. He explains that 30 lakh electors not mapped to the 2002 roll will be invited for hearings. Gupta asserts the ‘quality of the work has been satisfactory’ and aims for a ‘faultless electoral roll’ ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
