West Asia War Sparks Energy Crisis, India Evacuates 3.72 Students, Strategic Reserves Ready

India addresses Parliament on the West Asia war’s impact, highlighting a serious energy crisis affecting global trade routes and essential supplies of petrol, diesel, gas, and fertiliser. The government states that one crore Indians living in the region face security concerns, with many Indian crew members trapped on ships in the Hormuz Strait. India has evacuated over 3.72 lakh citizens since the war began, including more than 1,000 from Iran, among them 700 medical students. The government has engaged in two rounds of dialogue with most West Asian heads of state, as well as with Iran, Israel, and the United States, emphasising de-escalation and diplomacy. India condemns attacks on civilians, civil infrastructure, and energy and transport facilities. To mitigate the crisis, India has diversified energy imports from 27 to 41 countries, developed strategic petroleum reserves exceeding 53 lakh metric tonnes, and established seven empowered groups to address supply chain challenges. The government assures adequate fertiliser supply for the upcoming sowing season and urges state governments to ensure smooth distribution of essential goods whilst preventing hoarding and black marketing.
