The West Asia conflict escalated over seven days, beginning with Israeli and American strikes on Iran under Operation Roaring Lion and Operation Epic Fury. Iran retaliated with Operation True Promise 4, targeting Israel and US bases across the Gulf. Over 500 targets were struck on day one. The conflict spread to Gulf countries, with Iran targeting oil infrastructure and US bases. America deployed bombers and struck an Iranian warship. The United Nations Security Council remains paralysed, unable to enforce international law due to vetoes by permanent members. Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter forbids unprovoked attacks but enforcement remains rare. America provides 22 per cent of the UN’s regular budget and 26 per cent of peacekeeping funds, with Trump administration cuts further limiting UN effectiveness. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi stated there is no evidence Iran possesses nuclear weapons, though Iran has not allowed inspection of certain facilities.
