Salim Ismail, founding executive director of Singularity University, discussed the transformative impact of artificial intelligence and exponential technologies in an interview with India Today. He explained that the world’s biggest problems in healthcare, education, clean water, and energy represent the world’s biggest market opportunities. Ismail emphasized that advanced technologies are now cheap and accessible, enabling what he calls ‘permissionless disruptive innovation’. He stated, ‘A single person using AI to write software is outperforming institutional capital today.’ Ismail warned that legacy organizations face an existential threat because transaction costs outside companies are now lower than inside them. He predicted that companies will operate with one quarter of current employees as AI automates workflows, but four times more companies will be created. Ismail also revealed he conducted a workshop at the Vatican to help address its 2,000-year-old immune system to change. He forecast that AI will solve all mathematics within a year, leading to breakthroughs in physics and material science.
