Captain Wadia, founder and president of the Federation of Indian Pilots, spoke to India Today following two aviation crashes in 24 hours. He stated, ‘We have been shouting from the rooftops for the last 50 years,’ expressing frustration over repeated warnings about aviation safety being ignored. Captain Wadia criticised the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, saying, ‘The government of India and the DGCA does not see the necessity of having qualified safety people who analyze and suggest safety norms.’ He called for an independent safety board with qualified accident analysis specialists, arguing that the DGCA acts as ‘prosecutor, the judge and the jury totally.’ He questioned why crash reports take years to release and emphasised that vacancies are not the core issue—rather, it is the mindset of prioritising institutional protection over genuine safety improvements that perpetuates accidents.
