A massive crisis unfolds in India’s aviation sector as IndiGo cancels over 470 flights, causing widespread chaos and a surge in airfares. Amid stranded passengers and operational collapse, SpiceJet MD Ajay Singh stated, ‘I think all of us in the aviation sector have to do our very best to ensure that we minimize inconvenience for passengers.’ While IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers has apologised and expects operations to stabilise by December 15, Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has blamed the airline’s ‘mismanagement’ and ordered a high-level probe. In response to the passenger rush, Indian Railways has also added extra coaches to dozens of trains.
