WCL Calls Off India-Pakistan Match After Indian Cricketers Withdraw From Tournament
The World Championship of Legends (WCL) canceled the India-Pakistan match after Indian players, including Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan, withdrew due to geopolitical sensitivities. The WCL apologized for any hurt sentiments, noting the decision was made to avoid discomfort to Indian legends and fans. Dhawan, in a post on X, reaffirmed his May 11 decision to not play against Pakistan, emphasizing his country-first stance. Tournament sponsor EaseMyTrip also clarified it would not support any match involving Pakistan, despite a five-year WCL sponsorship agreement, and reiterated its support for the India Champions. The WCL 2025, sanctioned by the ECB, is set for July 18 to August 2 across Birmingham, Northampton, Leicester, and Leeds, featuring cricket legends.
