Home Minister Amit Shah announced the fulfillment of the government’s promise to end Naxalism in India by March 31, 2026, a deadline set nearly two years ago on August 24, 2024. Shah criticised the opposition for comparing Maoists to freedom fighters Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and accused the Congress party and the National Advisory Council under Sonia Gandhi of protecting those who took up arms. He stated he had read over 2,000 articles in six days written by Maoist sympathisers. The report noted that Maoist leaders, including Nambala Keshav Rao, were killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh in 2025. Security forces achieved significant field successes, breaking the back of the red terror organisation. The defeat of rural Maoism will free up 60,000 paramilitary forces previously deployed in central India for border deployment. However, the challenge of urban Naxals and their ideological network remains intact, requiring continued vigilance from the state.
