In the last 24 hours, Iran has launched counter-strikes targeting Israel, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Iraq, expanding the theatre of war in West Asia. The attacks continue despite the killing of top Iranian leaders, including Ali Larijani. Iran’s strikes on Gulf nations, particularly the UAE, are causing self-inflicted damage. Attacks on Dubai’s Jebel Ali port disrupt Iran’s re-export trade, while strikes near Dubai airport threaten supply chains of over 8,000 Iranian firms. Iranian residents in Dubai hold assets worth $300 billion at risk of devaluation. The UAE intercepted several missiles, but the conflict has damaged Dubai’s reputation as a safe destination. West Asia tourism has dropped 11 to 20 percent, with UK flights to Dubai cancelled and tourists rerouting to destinations like Spain. The UAE is offering tax leniency to expats leaving amid the conflict. Iran’s decentralised command structure, with standing instructions across 31 provinces, enables continued strikes even after leadership losses.
