US President Donald Trump has announced a five-day postponement of all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure. Trump stated that the United States and Iran have had very good and productive conversations over the last two days regarding a complete and total resolution of hostilities in the Middle East. The pause, beginning Monday, is subject to the success of ongoing meetings and discussions. The announcement comes after 24 days of heightened tensions in the region. Trump specifically instructed the Department of War to halt strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, which have been key targets for the USA and Israel. Iran’s new Khamenei regime has previously maintained that if the USA strikes, they will retaliate and the fight will continue. The situation also impacts neighbouring countries including Israel, Lebanon, and the UAE, as well as global markets for gas, fuel, and other essential commodities.
