The bridge is on a major highway connecting Beirut to Tyre, critical for transporting essential supplies to southern Lebanon. Israeli defence and prime ministers have ordered troops to escalate the South Lebanon operation, signalling a potential ground invasion. Iran has stated the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all except its enemies and their partners.
