The Israeli Defence Minister has claimed that Iran’s National Security Council chief Ali Larijani has been killed in an overnight strike. Israel is also claiming to have eliminated Ghulam Reza Soleimani, head of the Revolutionary Guards’ volunteer-based Basij Force. Larijani, considered a close aide of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was reportedly leading Iran’s war strategy. However, there is no official confirmation from Tehran. Larijani’s office released a cryptic handwritten note paying tribute to Iranian sailors who died in an incident near Sri Lanka’s territorial waters, but provided no information about his whereabouts or well-being. The development comes amid heightened tensions, with Israeli forces claiming Iran has launched missiles towards Israel in apparent retaliation. Reports also suggest Mustafa Khamenei is injured, though his condition remains unknown. If confirmed, Larijani’s death would mark a significant blow to Iran’s command structure, as he played a crucial role in coordinating between the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
