Indian Navy warships are escorting two LPG tankers, Jag Basant and Pine Gas, outside the Strait of Hormuz, carrying a day’s LPG supply for India. At least three Indian warships are currently deployed in the region to provide support to vessels that have overstayed their voyage due to geopolitical tensions. The warships are positioned to supply essentials such as food, medicine, and drinking water to crew members who have been at sea for over a week. While Indian vessels have been granted permission to use the Strait of Hormuz, the passage remains restricted with only two of six Indian LPG tankers managing to cross in the past 24 hours. Four other Indian LPG tankers are still waiting on the western side of the strait for clearance from Iranian authorities. Indian authorities indicate that vessels are being granted limited passage on a case-to-case basis. India normally requires approximately 25 to 30 such LPG tanker vessels per month to meet consumption needs.
