The Indian government has assured there is no shortage of LPG or crude oil in the country despite the ongoing crisis at the Strait of Hormuz, through which 80 per cent of the world’s oil passes. LPG from the United States has started arriving in India since January, following a one-year contract signed by Indian PSU oil companies in November 2025 to import approximately 2.2 MTPA of LPG from the US Gulf Coast for 2026. Government sources state India currently holds more crude oil stock than what is stuck at the Strait of Hormuz. Refineries have been ordered to increase production to prevent any domestic shortages. The government is also maintaining daily conversations with Qatar, UAE, and Saudi Arabia whilst monitoring the situation closely. India continues to import close to 1.02 million barrels per day from Russia, and the LPG contract with the United States remains active until the end of this year.
