Amid escalating West Asia war, the Indian government has mandated all oil marketing companies including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum to prioritise domestic household cooking gas supply. Reports indicate hotels in several cities, including Bengaluru and Mumbai, have flagged LPG gas shortage today. The shortage affects commercial LPG and could impact manufacturing hubs in these commercial sectors. The government has modified LPG cylinder booking rules, extending the intervening time between consecutive bookings from 21 days to 25 days to contain hoarding. Restaurant associations have issued advisories regarding the shortage of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders. India’s gas supply from Gulf nations, including long-term contracts with countries like Qatar, is reportedly getting impacted. The government’s priority remains ensuring LPG supply for homes and domestic purposes rather than commercial interests, preventing shortages from hitting households despite limited storage space for gas in India.
