The Waqf Amendment Bill has been cleared by both houses of Parliament with a simple majority. In the Lok Sabha, 288 MPs approved the bill, while in the Rajya Sabha, 128 MPs voted in favour and 95 against. Prime Minister Modi called it a ‘watershed moment’ for socio-economic justice and inclusive growth. Opposition parties maintain the bill infringes on Muslim rights, while the government argues it will benefit poor and marginalized Muslims.
