WAQF Act 2025 Constitutional Challenge: Supreme Court To Deliver Verdict | India Today News

The Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on 21 petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the WAQF Act 2025. A bench comprising the Chief Justice of India, P. R. Gawai, and Justice A. J. Massey had reserved its order four months ago. The verdict pertains to whether the implementation of the Act will be stayed while its constitutionality is heard. Petitioners have challenged the amendments on several grounds, including the violation of the 1995 Act and the right to freedom of religion. A significant concern raised is that the law could be used to take over properties, with one petitioner noting that "property that have been used as masjids or mazars for hundreds of years will then be taken over." Other contested issues include the exclusion of ‘WAQF by user’, the composition of state WAF boards, and provisions regarding government land.
