In a session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para raised a critical concern regarding the financial burden on the region’s youth. He revealed that the government has collected nearly ₹50 crore in application fees through the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) over the last two years. Para questioned the ethics of this revenue model, stating, ‘Pachaas crore rupiya do saalon ka sirf bachon ne fees diya sir, PSC aur SSB ko’ (In two years, children have paid 50 crore rupees in fees to PSC and SSB). He urged the government to be compassionate and refund these fees if jobs cannot be provided, highlighting that many students study through scholarships and struggle to afford these costs. The report also features aspirants like Vishwanath Rathore, who expressed frustration over delayed exams and the lack of transparency, while J&K continues to face an unemployment rate nearly double the national average.
