Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from his post, citing health reasons in a letter to the President. This sudden development has prompted the opposition to question the timing, suggesting there may be more to the decision than is apparent. The resignation followed his announcement in the Rajya Sabha that he had admitted a motion for the removal of Justice S. V. Varma of the Rajasthan High Court. Regarding the motion, he stated, "It is signed by more than 50 members of the Council of States, and thus It meets the numerical requirement of signing by Members of Parliament for setting in motion a process for removal of a High Court Judge." This move came after the opposition had previously moved an impeachment motion against Dhankhar himself in December 2024, accusing him of partisanship, which was rejected on technical grounds. The context of his recent remarks on the judiciary is also being examined following his departure.
