VP Dhankhar's Shock Exit Triggers Political Storm; EC To Announce Successor Polls

The Election Commission of India is set to initiate the process for the Vice Presidential elections following the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, nearly two years before the end of his term. Dhankhar cited health reasons for his departure, but the move has ignited a significant political controversy. The opposition alleges that the resignation was driven by serious underlying issues and pressure from the government, with one speaker stating, "He has resigned under pressure. He has given this reference to save his reputation." The BJP has refuted these claims, accusing the opposition of politicizing a personal health decision. The election for the next Vice President will be conducted by an electoral college comprising members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The government currently holds 427 votes against the opposition’s 355, with a majority mark of 392.
