Katju questioned whether Pakistan truly has leverage with both Iran and the United States, noting that while General Asim Munir may have rapport with President Trump, it remains unclear whether Iran will accept the mediation. On the broader Iran conflict, Katju emphasized that "every conflict has to be ripe for peace" and expressed doubt about whether the current situation meets that threshold. He pointed out that no one in Tehran may have the authority to make critical peace decisions, with the Supreme Leader’s condition uncertain. Katju also noted Iran’s strategic success in closing the Strait of Hormuz, giving Tehran negotiating power. He suggested the Israeli-American goal is not regime change but a complete system change in Iran, eliminating the Velayat-e-Faqih structure entirely.
