Vice-President Polls: NDA's Numbers Vs Opposition's Ideology Battle As Key Parties Abstain

The stage is set for the vice-presidential election on 9th September, pitting NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan against INDIA bloc nominee Sudarshan Reddy. The numbers in the electoral college, consisting of members from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, give the ruling NDA a clear advantage. Despite this, the opposition frames the contest as a fight for constitutional values, with Congress spokesperson Dr. Syed Nasir Hussain stating, “It’s a battle of ideologies, it’s a battle of political positioning… it’s a battle between two sets of ideas in this country.” The opposition is banking on a secret ballot and appeals to MPs to vote across party lines. Adding another layer to the election, key regional parties including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have decided to abstain from voting. BRS cites the governments’ inaction on urea shortage for farmers as the reason for its abstention. #vicepresidentialelection #cpradhakrishnan #sudarshanreddy #itwebvideos #nda #indiaalliance #parliament #rajyasabha #loksabha #indianpolitics #brs #bjd #telangana #farmers #ureashortage #crossvoting #secretballot #indiatoday
