Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on Vande Mataram, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Congress Working Committee — including leaders like Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, and Govind Vallabh Pant — had passed a resolution saying that only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram should be sung at national events.
He asked why the Prime Minister and Home Minister keep targeting Nehru when this was a collective decision made by many respected leaders. He said that blaming only Nehru is an insult to all those great leaders who were part of the decision.
