Heavy rain has caused a disaster in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, with flash floods raging through hills and swallowing roads and villages. The situation in Uttarkashi is tough. In Dharali area, flash floods turned entire homes into debris, and locals watched helplessly as houses were destroyed. Several villages have been severely affected with countless people displaced. In Bhatwari, the road connecting Uttarkashi to Dharali and the holy shrine of Gangotri has vanished. The Bhagwati stretch near the Bhagirathi has completely caved in. A car with people trapped inside was swept away by a raging torrent after a powerful cloud burst triggered flash floods in Dharali area near Harshal. An army camp was also swept away. A cloud burst over Sukhi Top in Uttarkashi unleashed destruction. Water swept away homes, damaged others, and left hill slopes strewn with debris. Over 130 people have been saved from life-threatening situations. The State Emergency Operations Center is coordinating efforts with district officials.
