Uttarkashi Cloudburst: NDRF DIG Mohsen Shahedi Briefs On Ongoing Rescue Operations In Uttarkashi
In the wake of a devastating cloudburst in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village on August 5, 2025, NDRF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mohsen Shahedi provided critical updates on the ongoing rescue operations. The cloudburst, which struck around 2 PM in Harsil town, triggered catastrophic flash floods and mudslides, washing away 40-50 houses and leaving over 50 people missing. Three NDRF teams, each comprising 35 well-equipped personnel, have been dispatched to the affected areas, with additional teams on standby at Pant Nagar, Gauchar, and Joshimath. The Indian Army, ITBP, SDRF, and local administration are working tirelessly, having rescued over 130 people so far. The operations face challenges due to damaged roads, bridges, and continuous heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a red alert for Uttarakhand until August 10. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is overseeing the efforts, with support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The State Emergency Operation Centre remains in constant coordination with district authorities to ensure swift relief and evacuation.
