Uttarakhand Rescue: Over 500 Evacuated, Air Services Key Amid Communication Breakdown | India Today

Relief and rescue operations are underway in Dharali, Uttar Kashi, and Harsil, Uttarakhand. Over 500 people have been evacuated, with 112 airlifted to Dehradun. The Indian Army has restored communication, and Uttarakhand Civil Aviation helicopters are actively involved in the rescue efforts. Areas like Dharali and surrounding villages remain cut off, facing communication breakdowns and intermittent power supply. The focus is on rescue and relief, with air services being the primary method to reach stranded individuals. The construction of the Gagnanee bridge by BRO is also in progress to restore connectivity. Rebuilding lives in the affected zones is expected to take weeks and months, requiring extensive excavation and the use of Doppler radars and sniffer dogs to locate missing persons. The immediate priority remains the rescue of those alive.
