A cloudburst in the Thorali region of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, on Friday night has caused widespread destruction. Reports from the ground indicate one girl is trapped under debris and another person is missing. The deluge has sent a massive flow of debris through the Thorali market and tehsil, damaging homes and burying several vehicles. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescue teams are conducting relief operations in the affected areas, although many roads remain blocked or have been washed away. This event follows other recent cloudbursts and flash floods in the higher regions of the state. Experts have started pointing to climate change as a factor in the increasing frequency of these incidents.
