US President Donald Trump has announced that Kristi Noem will step down as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Trump has nominated Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin to take over the role, with the transition expected to take effect on March 31, 2026.
Noem will instead serve as “Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas.” During her tenure as Homeland Security Secretary, she oversaw key elements of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown and border enforcement policies.
