A massive three-dawn rescue operation was conducted by US Special Operations Forces to extract a downed Air Force officer from deep behind enemy lines in Iran. The high-risk mission, led by a Navy SEAL Team 6 unit, aimed to reach the aviator before Iranian forces could locate him. The weapons systems officer had survived for more than 24 hours hiding in the Iranian mountains after his F-15E aircraft was shot down. To ensure the success of the extraction, the CIA launched a deception campaign to mislead Iranian forces, while attack aircraft struck Iranian convoys to keep them away from the rescue site. The operation involved hundreds of Special Forces troops, dozens of warplanes, and helicopters. The airman utilised limited beacon signals and secure communications to remain undetected until he was successfully rescued by military transport planes.
