China has denied conducting secret nuclear weapons tests after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Beijing and other countries were engaged in undisclosed underground testing. Responding to the allegations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said China has adhered to its long-standing moratorium on nuclear testing and remains committed to a policy of “no first use” of nuclear weapons.
Trump said in a television interview that China and Russia were carrying out nuclear tests without publicly acknowledging them, though he did not present evidence. He also suggested that North Korea and Pakistan were involved in similar activities. The remarks came as Trump ordered the U.S. Department of Defense to resume nuclear weapons testing, ending a decades-long pause.
Beijing has called on Washington to uphold the nuclear testing moratorium and take steps to maintain global strategic stability and the international non-proliferation regime.
