The United States has struck Iran’s Kharg Island, a strategic oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf that handles over 90 per cent of Iran’s oil trade. US President Donald Trump stated that while military facilities on the island were targeted, oil infrastructure was not destroyed. Trump warned that the US would strike Iran if it interferes in the Strait of Hormuz, and claimed Iran’s plans to obliterate Israel and take over the Middle East were dead. US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed the military operation aims to ensure Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon. Iran has not backed down despite the strikes, with large public demonstrations and defiant statements from Iranian leadership. The US has announced a 10 million dollar reward for information on Iran’s Supreme Leader.
