US President Donald Trump Speaks To Russia-Ukraine Prez, Says ‘Putin, Zelenskyy Want War To End’
President Donald Trump said Wednesday he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to begin negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that in addition to plans for him and Putin to visit one another, they will “probably” first meet in Saudi Arabia.
"We’re going to meet also probably in Saudi Arabia the first time, we’ll meet in Saudi Arabia, see if we can get something done. But we want to end that war. That war is a disaster," Trump said.
Trump told reporters that Putin "wants peace" and he believes a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine will happen "in the “not too distant future.”
The president also said that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was on a train in Ukraine Wednesday working to get written assurances that the U.S. would get access to Ukraine’s rare earth elements and oil and gas.
