US President Donald Trump has publicly stated that the Pakistani Prime Minister pleaded with him to stop the war with India, claiming ’35 million people will die’. Trump reiterated that he averted what would have been a nuclear war between India and Pakistan. His remarks contradict Pakistan’s narrative that India initiated conversations to avert the conflict following Operation Sindoor. The operation marked a significant shift in India’s response to decades of terror attacks, including the 1993 Mumbai blasts that killed 257 people and the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that massacred 166. Operation Sindoor targeted terror headquarters in Muridke and Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province. India struck 11 Pakistani airbases including Noor Khan, Sargodha, Jacobabad, and facilities in Kirana Hill, hitting runways, missile silos, drone command centres, and nuclear command systems. Pakistan’s DGMO called twice seeking a ceasefire, which India accepted after making clear it would not escalate if Pakistan sought peace.
