US President Donald Trump has claimed that India offered the United States a deal for zero tariffs on goods. Speaking on a podcast, Trump stated, "They which means India has offered the United States of America a deal where there will be no tariffs anymore". He suggested this offer was a direct result of his administration levying tariffs on India. This development comes as the US administration is reportedly uncomfortable with the bonhomie displayed between India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the SCO summit. While trade talks between the US and India have been stalled, the US President’s public statement is being viewed as his version of the story, potentially a negotiation tactic to apply pressure on the Indian administration.
