US auto regulators have initiated steps to mandate anti-drunk driving technology in all vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is exploring passive systems like breath, touch, or eye-monitoring sensors to stop intoxicated drivers from starting cars. Although accuracy and public acceptance remain concerns, the agency is evaluating available technologies and has issued an advance rulemaking notice. Automakers will get three years to comply once regulations are finalized, aiming to curb over 10,000 road deaths yearly.
