The United States has offered a 30-day Russian oil waiver to India, a move aimed at easing pressure on global oil markets amid heightened geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions triggered by the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Over 200 ships are stuck inside the Persian Gulf, 150 are waiting outside the Strait of Hormuz, and 38 Indian vessels are caught in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 per cent of global oil passes, has become a critical flashpoint due to strikes and tanker attacks that have triggered a shipping gridlock. Despite the crisis, Indian government sources say the country’s energy position remains comfortable. Two Russian crude shipments carrying 1.4 million barrels of crude oil are currently en route to India. The White House has stated it is preparing contingency plans to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, with the US Navy potentially providing escort assistance to oil tankers.
