US News LIVE: Students Gather To Honor Charlie Kirk At Arizona State University In Tempe
In remembrance of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, who was tragically killed on September 10, 2025, during a rally at Utah Valley University, hundreds of Arizona State University students, alumni, and supporters gathered at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe on September 15, 2025, for a candlelight vigil. The event, which was moved from Hayden Lawn owing to strong demand, was organised by the College Republicans and the TPUSA ASU branch. It included prayers, remarks honouring Kirk’s legacy of religion, patriotism, and student activism, as well as quiet meditation periods.
Thousands of people registered in advance to fill the arena at no cost to student groups, as confirmed by ASU administrators notwithstanding earlier controversy over event expenses. Kirk was hailed by attendees, including out-of-state guests like Don Leckman, as a "deeply spiritual man" whose message affected many lives. ASU, where Kirk gained a lot of his influence, was highlighted at the memorial, which drew heartfelt condolences from people including his wife Erika Kirk, who highlighted the "spiritual battle" that lay ahead.
