US News LIVE: Pennsylvania Governor And Police Officials Brief Media After A Shooting In York County
A tragic shooting occurred in North Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania, during a follow-up on a domestic-related investigation. Five law enforcement officers were shot while attempting to serve a warrant at a rural farm property on Haar Road. Three officers from the Northern York County Regional Police Department were killed, and two others (including a York County sheriff’s deputy) were critically but stably injured and airlifted to WellSpan York Hospital. The shooter, who was not immediately identified, was fatally shot by returning police fire and died at the scene. The incident, reported around 2:10 p.m. EDT, prompted a massive response from state police, the FBI, ATF, and local agencies.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro rushed to the scene, met with the families of the fallen officers, and addressed the media alongside Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris at a press conference held at WellSpan York Hospital around 6:15 p.m. EDT. Shapiro described it as an "absolutely tragic and devastating day" for York County and the commonwealth, calling for societal improvements in addressing violence, mental health, and support for law enforcement. This marks the second fatal incident for York County officers in 2025, following the February killing of Officer Andrew Duarte. The investigation is led by the Pennsylvania State Police and the York County District Attorney’s Office, with no ongoing threat to the public. Local schools were briefly placed on shelter-in-place, and a procession for the fallen officers was held on September 18. Flags across Pennsylvania were ordered to half-staff in their honor.
